Love Letter to Chuchee

2009 - 2024

From the very first moment I laid eyes on you, my heart knew that you were special. You have been so much more than a pet; you have been a friend and a source of endless joy. Your wagging tail, your calm spirit, and those soulful eyes. Beautiful expressive eyes.

I never wanted a dog, but you came into my dream. When we responded to the classifieds ad and you licked Mamma, we knew you were the one. You loved food—especially chicken—and you even had a large vocabulary of food words that you knew. Chuchee, you and your brother Toby were quite the pair. Although you were jealous of each other, you loved Toby dearly, even on his last days fighting cancer.

You've seen me at my best and my worst, offering comfort without judgment, and your unwavering loyalty has been a constant reminder of what true love looks like. You knew so many tricks like Kung Fu and punch punch, and you always amazed us with your intelligence.

Even though you were never fond of road trips, you loved to stick your head out for car rides around town, enjoying the wind on your face. And you always listened intently as Daddy practiced and played guitar, as if you appreciated the music too.

You were such a good communicator, giving a single hiss for "yes" and two hisses if you disapproved. I still remember the day I farted in the car, and the look on your face, as you tried to escape the car. I didn't think this day would come so soon; it still feels like it was just yesterday when we brought you home.

I want you to know how deeply you have touched my life. Your presence has been a gift, and we are so grateful for every single day we've spent together. Thank you for the unconditional love, the laughter, and the companionship. You are, and always will be, a part of my heart.

I hope you will remember us and put in a good word for us when our time comes to meet again in heaven. You have made my world a brighter place, and for that, I am forever grateful.

With all our love,

Thomas Yung
